The club was founded in 1939 under the name of Hall Green Church Tennis Club. Membership soon grew and it became a vibrant and popular club for the local community. The club was utilised not only for tennis but for a variety of events and even housed the home guard during the Second World War.
Unfortunately after 75 years of history ‘Beechcroft Tennis Club’ as it was re named in 1972, went into decline. Dwindling membership, dilapidated facilities and tennis losing its popularity almost brought the club to near closure. Not wanting to see this happen we have worked tirelessly to look for funding grants to help secure its future. In 2012 we were successful in obtaining a Sport England Olympic Legacy Inspire Facilities grant of £50K to improve the tennis courts. The club now boasts the best multi sports surface in Birmingham! After further capital from local investors we have been able to restore and refurbish the once tired clubhouse to its former charming glory, enabling it to be used for social events once more. All this provision has allowed us to promote a regenerated establishment with new equipment that can serve the community as it once did.
By forging new links with local schools, colleges, youth groups and clubs our re named Beechcroft Tennis & Multi Sports Community Club can offer a base for not only tennis but football, hockey, netball, and table tennis. A true community amenity for the people of the local area and beyond. From mini tennis for under 6 year olds to walking football for the over 55s this really is a multi generational sports and social facility with a bright future.
