Rugby LTC had a maximum field of 18 pairs for our recent Mixed Doubles championships. The format of play was to have 3 round robin groups of 6 pairs. The final placing's in these round robins determining which knockout each pair went into.
In the semi final of the Main draw, last years winners Rachael Baker & Graeme Morgan came up against a strong pairing of Alison Kelly & Martin Hunter. After some very hard fought out points Rachael & Graeme won 6-3. In the other semi final Jo & Matthew Outhwaite played in the match of the day as they narrowly defeated Sue Eaton & Marcus Powell in a deciding tie break taking the match by 6 games to 5. The final turned out to be a fairly one sided match as Rachael & Graeme made it champions two years in a row with a 6-0 win over the gallant Jo & Matthew, who had given their all in the semi.
The middle knockout group saw Charlotte Brayson & John Victoros beating Belinda Stephens & Roger Allen 6-0 in their semi final, while Michelle Stuchbury & David Warren saw off the spirited challenge of Gemma Trodd & Charles Norton to win 6-2. This final turned out to be very close and eventually came down to one break of serve as Michelle & David took a 6-4 victory.
The final knockout group saw Lisa Webb & Nigel Trodd beating Rachael & Paul Strange 6-2 in their semi final and Natalie Baker & Duncan Grime completing a similar score over Leo & Rob Oliver. Lisa & Nigel went on to win the final 6-0.
