Members of Henley Tennis Club heard of an increase in the number of Members – both Adult and Junior – during 2013. Reporting to the Annual General Meeting, Chairman Simon Maddox also said that the resurfacing of four courts with astro-turf had been completed and the Clubhouse refurbishment was well under way.
Head Coach Neil Supperstone said that the Club had over 250 juniors taking part in 27 different group sessions on a weekly basis from Monday through to Saturday giving a wide variety for all ages and abilities including two sessions a week for children as young as 2 ½. The Club also provided tennis or sports coaching to hundreds of school children during curriculum time or for after school clubs by linking to nine local schools as well as running three after school clubs located at local primary schools on a regular weekly basis.
During the year approximately 80 adults have taken part in regular group or private coaching sessions including three cardio tennis sessions a week, six group coaching sessions and one doubles tactics group. The Club is also developing local coaching resources through young leaders (10 trained last year) and LTA qualified coaches. The Club now has nine qualified coaches ranging from Level 4 to Level 1.
