The South Warwickshire Junior Summer Tennis Competition, run by the Wildmoor Spa Tennis League, gets under way this month with free entry to teams of 12 years old and under as at 1st March. This year the League has 20 teams and 5 Pools.
The competition takes the format of five Pools, each consisting of four teams, geographically local to each other, who each take it in turn to host a Pool every month over the summer between March and June. Pools will be played on a round robin basis with one pair of juniors from each club, one set each match (tie break normally at 6-6), allowing 3 sets/matches per team per pool night.
On Wednesday, July 2nd there will be a Play-Off Pool night at a Littletons Tennis Club between the winning teams from each of the five pools, all of which will receive Pool Winners medals, plus the best runners-up. The top two teams from these play-offs will then go on to play in a full Cup Final to be held at The Wildmoor Spa & Health Club Tiger Turf Courts, Alcester Road, Stratford-on-Avon, alongside the men's Inter-League Charity Cup Final on Sunday 31st August 2014. The Cups and Annual League Presentations and Trophies will be made immediately following this event with a free Buffet.
No fines are issued only points awarded i.e.: 2 for win, 1 for loss, 0 for fail to turn up.
Winners of the competition will receive a cheque for £50.00 donated by the League to help develop further their club's Junior Section and a large returnable Cup to keep for the year. Both winners and runners-up receive personal medals to keep. All medals will be financed by the League President, Alcester resident Tony King.
The Pools for 2013 consist of the following clubs who are mostly fairly local to each other:-
Pool A - Henley-in-Arden A, Claverdon, and HDA Redditch's B and E Teams.
Pool B - Warwick, Chipping Campden B, Henley-in-Arden B, and Snitterfield.
Pool C - Chipping Campden A, Evesham and Pershore.
Pool D - Bidford-on-Avon, Ilmington, Littletons and Stratford-on-Avon.
Pool E - Alcester A, and HDA Redditch's A, C and D Teams.
Chipping Campden A start the season by hosting Pool C's opening Pool Night on Friday, 14th March. Then Bidford-on-Avon are hosts for Pool D on Monday 17th March. Next up is Henley-in-Arden A who host Pool A on Thursday, 20th March, then Alcester in Pool E on Friday, 21st March. Finally, Warwick host their Pool B night on Thursday. 27th March, 2014. All Pool matches begin at 6.30pm unless stipulated except weekend dates.
