Warwickshire 9U Team – Sat 10th January 2015 @ Corby Tennis Centre

Monday, January 12, 2015

The Warwickshire 9U team was Charlie Hines, Cameron Holland, Dylan Pillinger and Claudia Sheftelia.

Warwickshire were drawn in a box with Cambridgeshire, Buckinghamshire and an invitational Corby team, made up of players from various counties.

In the first match against Cambridgeshire, despite winning the first set in all four matches, Warwickshire went down 3-1.  It was a repeat story against the Corby team, with Warwickshire again unluckily losing 3-1.  Things came together in the last game against Bucks, with Warwickshire winning 3-1 to finish third in their box.

Unfortunately, that meant that Warwickshire did not progress to the main semi-finals.  In the consolation semi-final, continuing with the theme of the day, Warwickshire managed to lose all the close three set matches.  That meant a rematch with Bucks in the 7th/8th play-off.  This time Warwickshire prevailed 4-0 to take 7th place, and it was a nice way to finish the day.

Overall, it was a great day and a fantastic experience for all of the players.  There was a great team spirit amongst the Warwickshire players (see the pic below).  Despite not getting the rub of the green during the day, all four players competed excellently and showed a great attitude.  In the main final, a very strong Hertfordshire side defeated Notts to take the title.
