More Success for Hampton-in-Arden Men’s Tennis

2015 has again been a terrific season for Hampton-in-Arden Tennis Club Men’s first team.

In the Coventry & District Lawn Tennis League Premier Division the team won the title for the fourth successive season, finishing 8 points clear of Rugby Tennis Club.

In 2015, Hampton Men’s Tennis has taken an unprecedented further step forward!

Entering a GB Seniors Over 35 team for the first time, Hampton successfully beat Caversham Tennis Club 4-1 in the semi-final of this National event. This victory followed wins in previous rounds against Beechwood, Bromsgrove and last year’s champions Virgin Active Gloucester in the quarter final.

The National final of the GB Seniors over 35 tournament took place on 22 November 2015 at David Lloyd Dudley against Westside Tennis Club from Wimbledon, Surrey.

Captained by Tony Eccleston and represented in the final by Rich Allen, Gavin Henderson, Hugh Jacques and Nigel Hunter, Hampton put up a tremendous fight against an extremely strong Westside team. Although Hampton had their chances, Westside managed to win the first 3 tight matches to take an unassailable 3-0 in the best of 5 contest.

Although Hampton finished runners up on this occasion, both finalists go forward to represent Great Britain in the European Club Championships next September in Turkey. A fantastic achievement for a club of our size!

Chairman Chris Barnes enthused “2015 has again been a terrific year at Hampton-in-Arden Tennis Club and the Over 35’s reaching the National final is a remarkable story given that only 4 years ago we were celebrating our first ever Premier Division success in the Coventry & District League. It will be an extremely proud moment for the Club to represent GB in Turkey next year.”

The Club has 5 men’s team in the summer and 3 ladies teams. Tennis continues all the year round with two men’s winter league teams and one ladies winter league team.

In addition, the Club runs a thriving junior section under a team of coaches headed up by Ian Poole. For more information about Hampton-in-Arden Tennis Club you can visit our web site www.hamptontennis.org.uk

As well as tennis, Hampton-in-Arden Sports Club (based in Shadowbrook Lane) also has excellent squash, racket ball, hockey, cricket and boules facilities.
