The second (April) round of Junior Tennis Cup competition Pool matches of the Wildmoor Spa Tennis League for the South Warwickshire & District Area have been completed with a slight change to the teams topping their Pools as in March. They are now Henley-in-Arden A in Pool A, Chipping Campden A in Pool B, Bidford-on-Avon in Pool C, and HDA A of Redditch in Pool D.
In Pool A, hosted in Henley-in-Arden by Henley B, the Henley A duo of Alex Didlick & James Price again managed to win all three matches although it was a close run result over the HDA Redditch side. They first beat Warwick 6-1, then their sister side Henley B 6-1. However, when they came up against HDA B pair Joe Hollier and his new partner Owen Perry it took a tie-break before they overcame them 7-6. The HDA Redditch pair went on to defeat Henley B 6-0 and Warwick 6-0 to stay second in the Pool A table. Finally, Henley B boys Jude Jones & Seb. Thomson overcame the Warwick lads Jacob Cheal & Callum Long 6-2.
Pool B was again played at Chipping Campden and saw fortunes change from the March Round with hosts Campden A emerging undefeated. The results were close and means that Campden A now share equal points at the midway stage but top the table only on points difference of just + 2. Their players Kieran Rigg & J.J. Coleman beat sister side Chipping Campden B 6-3, then Littletons B 7-6, although only after a 6-4 tie-break. Finally, they gained revenge over Littletons A 6-1 after their opponents fielded a new pair. This new Littletons A pair John Blakley & Charlotte Cox did hold onto second spot by beating Littletons B 6-3 and then Campden B 6-4. Littletons B duo Daniel Reynolds & Robbie Clear gained a victory over Campden B boys Jo Lindner & Alex Alexiou 6-2.
Evesham hosted Pool C but the leaders remained Bidford-on-Avon. Bidford boys Adam Farrow & Alfie Lovell overpowered all three opponents starting with Stratford-on-Avon 6-1, then Pershore 6-1, before defeating the hosts Evesham 6-2. Pershore pair Sam Butts & Alfie Hoyle celebrated a great victory over Evesham 7-5 in a terrifically close encounter. They then went on to beat Stratford 6-3 to retain second spot in the table. Evesham duo Joseph Williams & Jamie Woodcock beat last year’s Pool Winners Stratford and their pair this year Elliott Baxter & Dylan Jones 6-1.
Finally Pool D was played at Ilmington Tennis Club and saw HDA A again cruise to victory in all three of their matches as last year’s champion pairing of Harvey Ravenscroft & Scott Mortimer overcome all opposition Alcester A, Alcester B and Ilmington all by the same 6-0 scoreline. The latter was due to a walkover as an Ilmington player was taken ill and unable to play allowing 6-0 walkover. Alcester B once again turned the tables on their B team when Charlie Darby this time partnered by Chris Hillman overcame Alcester A 6-4. The then had a 6-0 walkover Ilmington. Alcester A pair Owen Linnett & Luke Clemens had to make do with just a 6-0 walkover Ilmington.
