Day One: Lincolnshire and Leicstershire

With a backdrop of grey clouds Warwickshire Girls began their campaign to qualify for the 12u County Cup in Caunton with a tie against Lincolnshire. Comprehensive wins at 1 from Mary Hoggard and 3 from Charlotte Eaton gave the team a great start. Sarah Costa lost in a tight 2 set battle and Mary and Sophie Smith sealing the tie 3-1 with the doubles without the loss of a game. First one under the belt.

Next they took on Leicestershire and amongst the Thunder and Lightening the girls dominated with Charlotte winning at 3 against a player she had previously lost to and Mary winning a battle at 1 in straight sets. Sophie played 2 singles and although she fought valiantly she was not to come out on top this time. Sarah and Mary teamed up for the doubles in this match and battled and won the tie and the match in 3 close sets

Day Two: Northamptonshire and Nottinghamshire

With a slight delay to the start due to some sideways rain the Girls began Day 2 against Northamptonshire with a clinical double bagel win by Charlotte at 3. Sarah followed with another decisive win at 2 and after a tough first set Mary at 1 confirmed the result with straight sets victory over a class opponent. After a short break Mary and Sophie went on to win the Doubles in a hard fought 3 sets win for a 4-0 victory.

Whilst Mary and Sophie were battling against Northants in the doubles Charlotte went on for the first match against Nottinghamshire at 3 and after a nervous start turned it around to score the win which on numbers meant the girls had qualified for the National finals. Sarah was next on and won a very good match at 2 working hard in the second set for the win. Mary at 1 turned around a first set loss to battle through against a high quality opponent to set up a 3-0 lead. After a short break Sophie and Mary teamed up for the final match and fought valiantly against a pair who played with a free arm with nothing to lose to win in 3 sets to confirm a 4-0 win.

So Warwickshire were confirmed winners and qualify for the Finals at Bolton undefeated.
