Wildmoor Spa Tennis Men’s League – Week 10
Week 10 of the Wildmoor Spa Men's Tennis League saw current Champions Stratford-on-Avon open their biggest lead ever at this stage of the season. Nevertheless, they surprisingly failed to take maximum points off bottom of the Premier Division side Claverdon (6). Stratford did however take the win 3-1 to amass 36 points with four weeks of the season left. Their nearest contenders are Evesham (23) whose game against Studley was rained off. Also Alcester (23) who dropped two points after they were held to a 2-2 draw by fourth placed Ardencote Manor (22). Fifth placed Henley-in-Arden (17) defeated sixth placed Moreton-in-Marsh (14) 3-1.
In Division One HDA Redditch with 33 points opened up a 12 points gap at the top of the table thanks to a 4-0 victory over Ardencote B (19) who dropped to fifth with this result. Alcester B (23) moved up to second spot after defeating equal fifth Littleton (19) 3-1. Snitterfield are third with 21 points and celebrated a 3-1 win over relegation threatened Whitnash (12). Finally, Pershore (20) moved up to fourth place with a 3-1 result over bottom of Division One Studley B (10).
The close battle for the Division Two title and promotion continued between Chipping Campden A (33), Inkberrow A (32) and Stratford B (29). Campden maintained their one point lead over Inkberrow when they enjoyed a crucial 4-0 victory over third placed Stratford B. Meanwhile Inkberrow kept up the pressure with 4-0 battering of relegation placed Studley B (9). Snitterfield B (17) changed places with Claverdon B (16) to claim fourth position after they beat Claverdon 3-1. FISSC (12) kept out of the relegation battle when they defeated bottom side Aston Cantlow (4) 3-1.
On to Division Three which also saw three teams vying for the lead all on 29 points. Henley B who beat mid-table Inkberrow B (18) 3-1, Shipston A who overcame HDA B Redditch (14) 3-1, and Alcester C who were awarded a 4-0 walkover Ilmington who failed to field a team. However, the league is investigating Ilmington who appeared to have pulled out of the competition citing lack of player numbers. If so their record will be expunged and the table amended with all Ilmington's results declared void. The match between the bottom two teams Inkberrow C (5) and Claverdon C (9) was postponed due to rain.
Pershore B are dominating Division Four with 33 points. They enjoyed a 3-1 victory over sixth placed Wildmoor Spa A (13). In second place is Chipping Campden B (24) who are competing for the other promotion spot. Unfortunate their match versus fifth placed HDA C Redditch (18) was rained off. Warwick (23) took their opportunity to close the gap on Campden B to a solitary point when they beat bottom side Moreton-in-Marsh C (7) 3-1. Fourth side Moreton-in-Marsh B (22) were surprised to be held to a 2-2 draw by penultimate team Littleton B (12).
Finally, in Division Five Bidford-on-Avon A (32) opened up an eight point lead by comfortably beating previously second placed side Warwickshire County Council (23) 4-0. Bidford B leaped back into second spot on 24 points after they had a 3-1 win at the expense of joint third Wildmoor Spa B (23). Evesham B (23) also joined Warwickshire County Council and Wildmoor Spa B in equal third place thanks to their 4-0 win over seventh placed HDA D Redditch (12). Lastly, Chipping Campden C (2) shocked Shipston B (12) when the beat the with a surprising 4-0 score line.
