MORE TOP 10 TALENT IN BIRMINGHAM LINE UP AS RADWANSKA JOINS WORLD’S BEST

World No. 8 and former Wimbledon finalist, Agnieszka Radwanska will join fellow top 10 players, including Great Britain’s Johanna Konta, at this year’s Aegon Classic Birmingham from 17-25th June. Radwanska and Konta are two of the five top 10 players who will grace the courts of the Edgbaston Priory Club this summer.

 

Radwanska, the 20-time WTA title winner, is returning to the Aegon Classic Birmingham for the third time and will be part of a very strong player field that also includes 10 of the world’s top 20 players.

 

Speaking on the announcement, Radwanska said: “Birmingham is a prestigious tournament in the run up to Wimbledon and I’m excited to be returning this year. It has a great reputation and with so many top players entered I’m sure the fans will see world-class tennis.”

World No. 7 and British No. 1 Konta will be bidding to become the first British women to lift the Maud Watson Trophy. In-form Konta won the biggest title of her career at the Miami Open in March this year.

 

This year’s tournament boasts more than $800,000 in prize-money pool and, with the Aegon International Eastbourne, is one of two top-level WTA Premier women’s tennis events leading into The Championships, Wimbledon. It is the most prestigious annual women’s sports event in the Midlands and has been drawing world-class tennis players to Birmingham since 1983, boasting Martina Navratilova, Billie Jean King, Maria Sharapova and Angelique Kerber amongst its former champions.

 

Entries for the main draw of the tournament close on 8th May, with more big names likely to be added to the line-up in the coming weeks.
