National Talent ID

Watch a video from a National Talent ID Day held at the National Tennis Centre, Roehampton.

Held twice a year at the end of each season, National Talent ID brings together the most encouraging and promising players across the UK for players aged 10, 11, 12, 13 and 14. The day will run over one day and be very similar to a Regional Talent ID day, including both physical and tennis tests. The 13U and 14U age group tests differ slightly and the drills for both sets of age groups can be seen on the right hand side of this page.

After the day, you will receive an in depth report including comments from the coaches for players to use and discuss with their individual coaches.

Once the results have been gathered after National Talent ID, players scores are used to determine the level of Matrix funding they will receive for that season. As there are two seasons of National ID days per year, a player has the opportunity to qualify for matrix funding twice. Funding is communicated after each NTID day (winter and summer seasons).  There is no National Talent ID or matrix funding for players ages 8 and 9 - only Regional Talent ID is held for these ages.

FAQs

How do I get invited to National ID day?

If you play on green ball (10U), you will be notified by invite to a National Talent ID day. Nominations are decided by your TPM in your area. There is no longer a Regional ID day for 10U green ball players. For yellow ball players (11 to 14 years old) please refer to the Player Matrix 2013/2014 documents for the acceptance criteria into National Talent ID.

How is funding worked out?

Please take the time to read the Matrix Funding chart and explanations.

My child switched ball colour during the year. How will his/her funding be worked out?

If your child has one season on a ball colour and then the next season on another, funding is worked out by averaging out their performances on both ball colours, based on their age.

My child was given Matrix B in the winter but was awarded nothing in the summer. Are they still eligible for funding?

Yes, it is the average of both seasons – meaning that their Matrix B will count towards funding for the whole year.
