Oliver’s Wimbledon Experience.

Wednesday, September 13, 2017

Two lucky players from Lancashire were given the honour over the summer of playing on the grass courts of Wimbledon. Oliver Critchley and Lucy Cunliffe won the 14u Singles events at their local clubs making it through to the HSBC Road to Wimbledon County Finals where they played against winners from other venues across Lancashire. Becoming victors of the County event saw them through to the National Finals, and the hallowed grass of Wimbledon, to play against some of the Counties finest young talent.

Read all about Oliver’s experience below:

When we arrived at the club at first there were queues of competitors waiting at the entrance to get a wristband and to get in. Eventually after getting in we were able to book a practice court after receiving our gift packages. When it was our turn to practice I rushed on to court to get the maximum time possible and the courts were absolutely amazing. I practiced for 2 hours before going to our apartment and getting ready for the first match day. We were put into boxes and the top 2 boys made it through. I had some nail biting matches and some games where I dominated but everyone was very good. I came out on top of my box eventually. In the second round of the doubles and the main draw I got knocked out by strong opposition but I still really enjoyed the experience. Road to Wimbledon was the best tournament I have ever been to.
