In the first stage of the competition, tennis clubs in Notts ran the 14U competition restricted to players rated 7.1-10.2. Winners and runners-up representing Caunton, David Lloyd West Bridgford and Nottingham, Farnsfield, Lady Bay, Magdala, Welbeck and West Bridgford were invited to take part in the Notts Club Final weekend on the 7th/8th July.
After a close tie-break semi-final (v Annabel Bird), Naomi Szczur from David Lloyd West Bridgford, beat Sienna Hawkesworth (West Bridgford) to win the Girls’ Final.
The Boys’ Final was contested between Ishy Han from David Lloyd Nottingham and Johnny Lees (also West Bridgford). Congratulations to Ishy Han who was the winner (having been runner-up last year!) and who also had a close tie-break win on his way to the final (v. Indy Weir).
The weekend will be remembered for lovely weather and fair play.
Both will now compete at the National Finals, held at All England Lawn Tennis Club, where the 44 County Finals winners qualify to play singles & doubles at the famous Wimbledon grass courts.
