10&U Tennis County Cup Review 2012

Both boys and girls 10&U County Cup teams were in action on the Jubilee bank holiday weekend, with boys playing at Halton and girls at Oxford Sports in Botley.  As ever Oxfordshire were competing against the much larger counties of Middlesex and Hertfordshire as well as Buckinghamshire and Gloucestershire. 

Day 1 saw the girl’s play three matches (as rain was forecast for Sunday) Defeats against Middlesex and Hertfordshire sandwiched a fantastic win against Buckinghamshire.  With Laila and Grace winning their singles, Bucks had captured the other singles and the doubles, it was up to Laila and Grace to team up in the shoot-out where they won and achieved a notable win for Oxfordshire. 

Day 1 was tough for the boys playing Hertfordshire and Buckinghamshire going 2-1 down in both after the singles with Connor winning both matches.  The doubles followed with Oxfordshire putting in two great performances although narrowly losing out in both. It was time for Olly to do his stuff and rally the team for day two!

With the poor weather day two was played indoors which seemed to suit the boys; Connor and George leading the way to a rare 6-2 win over Middlesex with Ollie Broadhurst putting in another brave performance taking a set off the number one player. Jamie then joined the singles to achieve a 6-2 win over Gloucestershire to secure third place in what turned out to be a tight group, a great improvement.

The girls meanwhile continued their good form from Saturday with a convincing 6-2 win over Gloucestershire with Lois really unlucky not to have made it 8-0.  This also left the girls in a very well earned third position.  Captain Amanda beamed ‘the girls showed energy, enthusiasm and effort they showed throughout the weekend, it was a pleasure being their captain’
