Website Accessibility

Accessibility Statement

The Tennis Foundation and the Lawn Tennis Association (LTA) are committed to providing a website that is accessible to the widest possible audience, regardless of technology or ability. We are actively working to increase the accessibility and usability of our websites and in doing so adhere to the available standards and guidelines.

Our site has been designed to help accessibility by following the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.0, set by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) as part of their Web Accessibility Initiative.

For visually impaired users

All pages validate as XHTML 1.0 Transitional, uses structured semantic mark-up and the CSS has also been validated, in order to be compatible with read-aloud software.  We are also striving to make sure than any PDF files uploaded to the site are compatible with read-aloud software.

Where content images are used, they will include descriptive ALT attributes. Those purely decorative graphics or used for layout include empty ALT attributes.

To alter the contrast of the screen and size of the text, use the button in the top right hand corner of the screen to switch to the high visibility version of the website.

For users who are deaf or have difficulty hearing

Any videos on the Tennis Foundation website that include speech will be accompanied by a text version. Where there are videos without speech providing visual information only this will be clearly indicted.

For users who have difficulty using a mouse or keyboard

It is possible to use this site by using the keyboard, rather than a mouse or other pointing device. This can be done by using the TAB key to move forward through the links on the page, and Shift-TAB to move backwards. Pressing the Space Bar will select form elements such as tick boxes and pressing the Return key will activate any link you are focused on.

When using the search bar at the top of the page you can tab into the website button and use the return key to open the drop down menu. From here you can tab to the search option you wish to use and hit return to activate the chosen option.

Navigation Keys can be used as shortcuts to avoid tabbing through the websites menu. Depending on the browser you are using how to activate the shortcuts will vary as follows:

Internet Explorer: Alt + Access Key + Return

Chrome: Alt + Access Key

Firefox: Alt + Shift + Access Key

PDF Documents

To view and print Portable Document Format (PDF) files, you need the free Adobe Reader software. If you don't have Adobe Reader already, you can download it from www.adobe.com. Follow the link titled 'Get Adobe Reader'.

Word Documents

You can view and print Microsoft Word files from Microsoft Word itself or several other word processing packages. Microsoft offer the free Microsoft Word Viewer as a download for Windows users that don't have a suitable word processor. The viewer is available from the Office section of www.microsoft.com.

Whilst the LTA and Tennis Foundation strive to adhere to the accepted guidelines and standards for accessibility and usability, it is not always possible to do so in all areas of the website. In some cases, links will be duplicated on the same page, which may confuse screen reading software.
