The two main priorities for the Liverpool pilot are to sustain the long term future of important indoor tennis centres and to capitalise on the large student population of around 90,000 people. Working in partnership with Liverpool City Council, a package of support has been put together which will drive participation and sustainability at two key indoor venues, Liverpool Tennis Centre and Archbishop Beck Community Tennis Centre.
The support includes the recruitment of a city wide Tennis Manager to drive participation and sustainability, with a longer term vision of developing wider community participation of tennis.
To capitalise on the student population a University Tennis Coordinator was recruited for Liverpool John Moores University and targeted programmes delivered to increase participation in this sector. Recreational sessions have seen an increase and placement opportunities created.
