Peter Norfolk moved into the quad singles semi-finals at the Pensacola Open Wheelchair Tennis Championships on Thursday, while fellow Britons David Phillipson and Jordanne Whiley progressed to their respecitve men's and women's singles quarter-finals.
World No 2 Norfolk came from 5-2 and 40-0 down in the second set of his quad singles quarter-final againt Dutch world No 9 Dorrie Timmerman before wrapping up a 6-2, 7-6(2) victory, The second seed faces world No. 4 Sarah Hunter of Canada in Saturday's semi-finals.
"I put plenty of pressure on Dorrie in the first set and was well focussed, but then lost my way a little," said Norfolk afterwards. "But I'm really pleased to come back from 5-2 down and then win the tie-break 7-2. It was the kind of challenge I need as I am short of matchplay at the moment."
Later in the day Norfolk paired up wiith fellow Briton Jamie Burdekin and the Beijing Paralympic quad doubles bronze medallists booked their place in the quad main draw doubles first round proper. They will continue their doubles campaign on Friday.
British No 1 Phillipson was in sparkling form as he moved into the last eight of the men's singles with a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Japan's Masahiro Honma. Eighth seed Phillipson will now take on Dutch world No 4 Ronald Vink.
Whiley will also face a Dutch challenge in the quarter-finals of the women's singles after she overcame Chile's Maria Antonieta Ortiz 6-3, 2-6, 6-2, avenging a three set loss to Ortiz last week at the Cajun Classic in Baton Rouge. British No 2 and seventh seed Whiley will play world No 5 Aniek van Koot on Friday.
Meanwhile, Burdekin and Antony Cotterill have progressed to the semi-finals of the quad consolation singles, in which they will both play American opponents.
Burdekin beat fellow Briton John Parfitt 6-2, 6-2 and goes on to play Swedish world No 7 Anders Hard, while Cotterill defeated American David Jordan to earn a semi-final against world No 9 Bryan Barten.
