Britain's Marc McCarroll and Kevin Simpson both progressed to the men's singles quarter-finals at the Israel Open Wheelchair Tennis Championships in Tel Aviv on Wednesday, with McCarroll also earning his place in the men's doubles semi-finals at this week's ITF 2 Series tournament.
World No 22 McCarroll wasted little time in beating Sweden's Niclas Rodhborn 6-2, 6-0 as he opened his bid for his first ITF 2 Series title, but the British No 3 and fourth seed faces a tough challenge in the last eight, when he takes on seventh seed Piotr Jaroszewski of Poland.
Meanwhile, current British No 4 and eighth seed Simpson came through his first match against Israel's Asaaf Stokol 6-4, 6-3 and the Scot also faces a stiff challenge in the quarter-finals against third seed Fabian Mazzei of Italy.
There were mixed fortunes for McCarroll and Simpson as the men's doubles got underway, McCarroll pairing up with Hungary's Laszlo Farkas to earn a comprehensive 6-2, 6-0 win over Mazzei and Rodhborn. The third seeds now face second seeds Tom Egberink of the Netherlands and Spain's Quico Tur for a place in the final.
However, Simpson's doubles challenge came to an end when he and Poland's Kamil Fabisiak were beaten by Israeli duo Genadi Kohanov and Stokol.
Thursday's third day of play in Tel Aviv will see Britain's Adam Field and Liam O'Reilly play their first matches of the week when they are in quad singles and doubles action.
