Britain's Jordanne Whiley and Jamie Burdekin saw their challenges come to an end on Friday when they were beaten in their respective semi-finals at the Sydney International Wheelchair Tennis Open.
British No 2 and world No 10 Whiley, the only non-seed in the women's singles semi-finals, was contesting her first ever singles semi-final at an ITF 1 Series tournament but found Australian world No 2 Daniela di Toro too strong for her on the day as top seed di Toro won 6-1, 6-0.
Later in the day Whiley and South Africa's Kgothatso Montjane, who were playing together for the first time, gave last week's Australian Open runners-up Jiske Griffioen and Aniek van Koot a fright in their women's doubles semi-final before the Dutch top seeds eventually pulled through 7-6(5), 6-4.
Whiley had reached the semi-finals after coming from a set down to beat Belgian world No 6 and fourth seed Annick Sevenans.
Burdekin's back-to-back tournaments in Australia came to an end as he missed out to South Africa's Lucas Sithole for the second successive week.
Burdekin lost a final set tie-break to finish runner-up to Sithole at last week's Melbourne Open and, despite another close match in Sydney, the South African again had the upper hand to prevail 7-5, 6-3.
