Phillipson continues success Down Under reaching Adelaide semis

For the second time in five days British No 1 David Phillipson will face Swedish world No 3 Stefan Olsson after reaching the men's singles semi-finals at the South Australian City of Prospect Wheelchair Tennis Open in Adelaide.

Phillipson has risen two places to equal his career best at No 11 in this week's world rankings after finishing runner-up to Olsson in last Sunday's men's singles final at the Queensland Open in Brisbane.

However, with the two players drawn in the same half of the draw in Adelaide, third seed Phillipson will hope to upset the top seed for the first time in his career when they meet on Friday in the last four of this week's ITF 3 Series event on the NEC Wheelchair Tennis Tour.

Phillipson dropped just two games in each of his opening two matches against Australians Jerry Markoja and Keegan Oh-Chee en route to the Adelaide semis.

Meanwhile, British No 3 Marc McCarroll beat Japan's Koji Hirasawa 6-0, 6-1 in his first round match before bowing out to Olsson after gaining just one game in their quarter-final contest.

McCarroll and Phillipson arrived in Adelaide seeking back-to-back men's doubles titles after triumphing in Brisbane, but having comfortably reached the semi-finals they were edged out 4-6, 6-2, 6-4 on Wednesday by Olsson and Australian Michael Dobbie in a rematch of Sunday's Queensland Open final.
