Britain's wheelchair tennis players competing at the Swiss Open this week are set to resume their singles campaigns today after a very successful Wednesday in their doubles competitions in Geneva.
In the women's doubles Lucy Shuker and Jordanne Whiley booked their places in the semi-finals after a confident 6-1, 6-2 victory over Japanese duo Kanako Domori and Yuko Okabe. The Brtiish third seeds will face Dutch top seeds Marjolein Buis and Sharon Walraven in the last four later in the week.
Jamie Burdekin and John Parfitt have also reached the semi-finals in the quad doubles after comfortably beating Frenchmen Stephane Erismann and Thomas Huguenin 6-1, 6-0. Second seeds Burdekin and Parfitt will face Shota Kawano of Japan and Italy's Antonio Raffaele for a place in the this weekend's final.
There was also doubles success for Britain's three leading players in the men's doubles. Alex Jewitt and David Phillipson overcame the Swiss partnership of Thomas Suter and Thomas von Daeniken 6-2, 6-3 to earn a tough quarter-final match against French second seeds Stephane Houdet and Nicolas Peifer, while current British No 1 Gordon Reid partnered Italy's Fabian Mazzei to a comprehensive 6-0, 6-0 victory over Dan Kleckner of Austria and Israel's Asaaf Stokol.
Reid and Mazzei go on to face Dutch top seeds and recent Wimbledon doubles champions Maikel Scheffers and Ronald Vink.
Phillipson and Reid will be in men's singles second round action today, with Shuker and Whiley starting their women's singles challenges after first round byes on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Burdekin and Parfitt will be looking to book places in the semi-finals of the quad singles.
