Five British players will contest Friday's main draw singles quarter-finals at the BNP Paribas French Open Wheelchair Tennis Championships in Antony, near Paris, with Jamie Burdekin and Peter Norfolk set to go head-to-head in the last eight of the quad singles.
Four Britons were seeded in the quad singles and had byes through to Thursday's second round of matches, where World No 2 Norfolk defeated Bas van Erp of the Netherlands 6-2, 6-4 and sixth seed Burdekin eased to a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Frenchman Sebastien Jance. Burdekin and Norfolk are joined in the last eight by eighth seed john Parfitt, who negotiated a potentially difficult match against Italy's Giuseppe Polidori 6-4, 6-2 to earn a contest against American world No 1 David Wagner.
Wagner was responsible for ending the hopes of one of two British players on Thursday when he overcame Adam Field 6-3, 6-1, as Field exited in the second round of the ITF Super Series event for the second year in succession. Meanwhile, there was disappointment for Britain's world No 5 ranked player Andrew Lapthorne, who found former world No 1 Shraga Weinberg of Israel too good for him on the day. Fourth seed Lapthorne saw his singles challenge end 6-2, 2-6, 2-6 after a positive start.
In the men's main draw singles, British No 1 Gordon Reid will take on world No 3 ranked Frenchman Stephane Houdet in the last eight. Reid advanced to just the second Super Series quarter-final of his career after his scheduled Hungarian second round opponent Laszlo Farkas was forced to withdraw. Having beaten Dutch world No 6 Ronald Vink on Tuesday, the 19-year-old Scot will now bid to claim another big scalp.
Meanwhile, British women's No 1 Lucy Shuker will face Dutch world No 3 Marjolein Buis in the women's singles, having already secured her quarter-final berth earlier in the week.
There was more British success in the doubles events as Shuker partnered British No 2 Jordanne Whiley to a routine 6-2, 6-0 victory over Chilean duo Francisca Mardones and Maria Antonieta Ortiz. The British third seeds will now face Dutch second seeds Buis and Sharon Walraven in Friday's semi-finals as they look for a good performance ahead of becoming the first all-British pairing to contest the women's wheelchair tennis doubles event at Wimbledon next week.
In the quad doubles top seeds Lapthorne and Norfolk made an even more impressive start to their campaign as they eased to a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Japan's Takahiro Koga and Patrick Sappino of France. Lapthorne and Norfolk are guaranteed to have at least one other Briton on the other side of the net in their semi-final after Field partnered American Marc McLean to a a 6-4, 6-4 first round win over French duo Stephane Erismann and Thomas Huguenin. Field and McLean now face fourth seeds Burdekin and Parfitt, who had a bye into the quarter-finals along with Lapthorne and Norfolk.
Friday's fourth day of play in Antony will also see British No 3 Marc McCarroll take on Frenchman Antoine Grelet in the quarter-finals of the men's main draw singles quarter-finals. McCarroll and British No 2 David Phillipson contest the consolation singles after first round losses in the main draw earlier in the week. Should McCarroll beat Grelet he will meet Phillipson, who won his opening consolation match against Gaetan Menguy of France 6-0, 6-1.
