Norfolk and Lapthorne finish runners-up at French Open

Peter Norfolk and Andrew Lapthorne had to give best to their American opponents on Sunday as the BNP Paribas French Open Wheelchair Tennis Championships drew to a close in Antony, Paris with the two Britons finishing runners-up in the quad singles and quad doubles finals respectively.

World No 2 Norfolk went into Sunday's quad singles decider against world No 1 David Wagner having split honours in the two finals the rivals had contested so far this season. However, it was Wagner who just had the edge as he secured 6-4, 4-6, 6-4 victory to retain his French Open title at the third Super Series event of 2011.

In the quad doubles final top seeds Lapthorne and Norfolk took a 5-3 first set lead, but were unable to maintain their level as second seeds Bryan Barten and Wagner fought back to clinch the last 10 games and complete a 7-5, 6-0 victory.

Elsewhere in Europe, British women's No 3 Louise Hunt was also runner-up in Sunday's women's singles final at the ITF 3 Series Arcotel-Rezidencija 55 Tournament in Croatia. The day after partnering Germany's Bianca Osterer to win the women's doubles, Hunt took on Osterer in a thrilling singles final, but the German won the crucial points in the second and third sets to record a 5-7, 7-5, 7-5 win.
