McCarroll nets Biel-Bienne doubles title

Britain's Marc McCarroll has won his seventh ITF 3 Series doubles title on the NEC Wheelchair Tennis Tour on Sunday at the Biel-Bienne Indoors in Switzerland.

McCarroll, the British men's No 3, partnered Poland's Tadeusz Kruszelnicki to a comfortable 6-2, 6-1 victory over Yann Avanthey and Daniel Pellegrina in Sunday's final as they secured their second win in successive days against all-Swiss opposition.

His latest triumph earned McCarroll the 17th international men's main draw doubles title of his career, two and a half years on from him winning his first in Cardiff in October 2008. It also brought a fine end to the tournament after he bowed out of the men's singles in Saturday's semi-finals against his big-hitting doubles partner and former world No 3 Kruszelnicki, who went on to lift the men's singles title earlier in the day on Sunday.

"It's been a good week, winning the doubles with a partner I have never played with before and also it was a great chance to learn from him," said McCarroll.

"It was a shame I got him on my side of the draw, but it was great experience to play against him as well as with him.  It's been a good start to the year and I hope it carries on in the coming months."

After the best individual win of her career on Saturday, when she beat German top seed and world No 12 Katharina Kruger 6-1, 0-6, 6-2, Louise Hunt took on another German opponent, third seed Sabine Ellerbrock, in Sunday's women's singles final.

Hunt was unable to take a game off Ellerbrock in their only previous head-to-head in Germany in 2010, but produced a much improved performance this time, fighting back from 5-1 down in the first set to trail by just a single game at 5-4.  However, Ellerbrock held on and eventually clinched the title 6-4, 6-1.

"Although I lost today, I certainly wasn't disappointed with the way I played and can take a lot of positives away from the match, such as coming from 5-1 down in the first set," said British women's No 3 and fourth seed Hunt.

"I had a point to make it 5-5 and then saved three match points in the second set when I was 5-0 down before taking that game, but Sabine is just a very good player."
