British No 3 Marc McCarroll clinched his first NEC Wheelchair Tennis Tour men's singles title of 2011 on Sunday when he beat reigning National champion Alex Jewitt in a thrilling three set final at the North East Tournament in Sunderland.
Top seed McCarroll, who was a semi-finalist in the same ITF 3 Series tournament in 2010, came from 5-2 down in the deciding set against Jewitt and saved a match point at 5-3 down en route to earning a 7-6(5), 6-7(5), 7-5 victory after two hours and 45 minutes of play.
McCarroll then went on to secure a more comfortable victory in the men's doubles final, gaining his third doubles title of the season and his second in the last three weeks. McCarroll and the vastly experienced Kevin Plowman, who represented Great Britain in the 2004 Athens Paralympics, eased to a 6-2, 6-2 victory over the second seeds, Britain's Tony Knappett and Dan Wallin of Sweden.
British women's No 3 Louise Hunt followed up her victory in February's North West Challenge in Preston, Britain's first world ranking event of 2011, with another women's singles title after beating fellow Briton Debbie Brazier 6-1, 6-2.
However, Hunt was unable to win a third women's doubles title of the year after another exciting three set decider. Hunt and 15-year-old Lauren Jones, who has been playing wheelchair tennis for just a year, put a good effort on their debut together against the more established pairing of Brazier and fellow Briton Val Fisher.
However, Brazier and Fisher eventually pulled through to take the title 7-6(7), 5-7, 6-3.
On the other side of the Atlantic, Antony Cotterill took British hopes into Sunday's last day of the Cajun Classic in Baton Rouge as he contested the quad consolation singles final. However, Cotterill was unable to end the tournament on a winning note, with his South African opponent Lucas Sithole earning a 6-2, 6-1 victory.
Cotterill now joins a host of other leading Britons at next week's Pensacola Open, which begins on Wednesday.
