Jewitt into Antalya Open finals

Alex Jewitt will contest both the men's singles and men's doubles finals on Sunday at the Antalya Open in Turkey, six days after landing the latest of his international wheelchair tennis titles in the men's singles at the Turkish Open at the same venue.

Jewitt, whose reign as National champion will come to an end next weekend as he concentrates on his upcoming international schedule, dropped just four games in two men's singles matches on Friday. He then defeated Iran's Mohammad Yaghoubi 6-3, 6-1 in Saturday's semi-finals to set up a rematch of his Turkish Open final against another Iranian player, Hossein Mamipour, who Jewitt beat in three sets last Monday.

Sunday's men's doubles decider will also be another exact rematch of Jewitt's men's doubles final at the Turkish Open, but this time he will hope to come out on the winning team.  Jewitt renews his partnership with Greek player Giorgios Lazaridis after the duo lost out to Mamipour and Yaghoubi in the final of the first of the back-to-back ITF Futures events in Turkey.

While Saturday brought a successful day for Jewitt, fellow Britons Andrew Lapthorne and John Parfitt both saw their bids for a place in the Japan Open quad singles final come to an end after they had each reached the first ITF Super Series semi-finals of their careers.

World No 6 and second seed Lapthorne, who was playing his first tournament since the Pensacola Open at the end of March, slipped to a 5-7, 1-6 loss against Israeli world No 12 Noam Gershony, despite coming from 4-1 down in the first set to lead 5-4.

Meanwhile, Parfitt kept pace with American world No 1 and defending champion David Wagner for the first five games of their semi-final before Wagner's experience began to tell and he went on to win 6-2, 6-0.

Both Lapthorne and Parfitt can look forward to a significant gain in ranking points when next week's world rankings are published by the International Tennis Federation.
