Parfitt and Phillipson star in Korea

John Parfitt won the first ITF 1 Series doubles title of his career on Friday when pairing up with Israel's Noam Gershony to win the quad doubles final at the Korea Open.

Meanwhile, there was another career landmark in Seoul for fellow Briton David Phillipson, who reached the first ITF 1 Series men's singles final of his career.

In the quad doubles final second seeds Parfitt and Gershony dropped the opening set against Malaysia's Azman Hasan and Tzu-Hsuan Huang in a tie-break.  However, they came back strongly to wrap up the contest 6-7(6), 6-2, (10-4) after a deciding champions tie-break, with Parfitt sealing match point with a half-volley drop shot.

In the men's singles semi-finals third seed and British No 2 Phillipson was in fine form in the opening set of his match against Australian second seed Ben Weekes, breezing through the set 6-0.  Weekes regrouped ahead of a close second set and after Phillipson had two match points at 5-4, the Briton came from 6-5 down to force a tie-break, which he eventually took 11-9 to complete a 6-0, 7-6(9) victory.  Phillipson now faces Japanese top seed and world No 8 Satoshi Saida in Saturday's final.

While Phillipson enjoyed a fine singles win, he and Marc McCarroll missed out on a place in the men's doubles final after a deciding champions tie-break.  The British duo eased to the first set of their semi-final, but fourth seeds Sam-Ju Kim of Korea and Weekes hit back to force the champions tieb-break before and went on to record a 2-6, 6-4, (10-7) victory.

With the Korea Open being one of two ITF 1 Series tournaments on the NEC Wheelchair Tennis Tour this week, at the Atlanta Open in the USA Britain's Adam Field saw his tournament come to an end in Friday's quarter-finals.  Fourth seed Field faced a tough task as he met American world No. 4 and second seed Nick Taylor, with Taylor advancing to Saturday's semi-finals 6-2, 6-0.
