British wheelchair tennis players continued to find success in Korea and the USA on Thursday, with John Parfitt reaching the quad doubles final at the Korea Open in Seoul, where David Phillipson also progressed to the men's singles semifinals and then also paired up with Marc McCarroll to reach the men's doubles semi-finals.
At the Atlanta Open, the second of this week's ITF 1 Series tournaments on the NEC Wheelchair Tennis Tour, Adam Field also clinched a place in the quad singles semifinals.
Parfitt and his Israeli partner Noam Gershony will play Malaysia's Azman Hasan and Tzu-Hsuan Huang of Chinese Taipei in Friday's quad doubles final in Seoul after a routine 6-1, 6-3 win over Koreans Myoungsic Nam and Ho Sang Wang in their semi-final.
McCarrroll and Phillipson are also just one match away from reaching the men's doubles final. The British top seeds defeated Japan's Masahiro Honma and Takuya Miki 6-2, 6-0 after going 2-1 down in their quarter-final and then stringing eleven successive games together. McCarroll and Phillipson are now likely to face tougher opposition in their semi-final against fourth seeds Sam-Ju Kim of Korea and Ben Weekes of Australia.
However, it was a mixed day for McCarroll and Phillipson in the men's singles quarter-finals. British No 2 Phillipson won the opening set of his match against fifth seed Lahcen Majdi of France after having been 2-0 down. Despite dropping a second set tie-break, Phillipson produced a confident third and final set to wrap up a 6-4, 6-7(4), 6-2 victory that sets him up for a semi-final against Australian second seed Ben Weekes on Friday.
McCarroll managed to create a string of game points against Japanese top seed Satoshi Saida in his quarter-final, but was only able to convert one of them as world No 8 Saida advanced 6-0, 6-1.
Field's Atlanta Open quarter-final against American Marc McLean turned into a closely fought contest, but fourth seed Field won the points that mattered as he sealed a 7-5 6-4 victory to book his place in the last four against American second seed Nick Taylor.
However, Field's quad doubles campaign ended in the first round when he and American Pani Herath were beaten 6-1, 6-2 by all-American duo Greg Hasterok and David Jordan.
