The Tennis Foundation and Tennis Scotland are pleased to announce the appointment of Andrew Raitt as their Disability Tennis Development Manager for Scotland.
Andrew will lead on developing and supporting disability tennis players from grass roots right up to the highest performance level across the country.
Andrew, a qualified coach for more than twelve years, has been employed in several key positions within the sport, including Glasgow City Council Tennis Development Officer, Racquets Manager at Next Generation Glasgow West End and latterly as Sports Manager with David Lloyd Edinburgh.
And having assisted in the running of the Special Olympics at Scotstoun Leisure Centre six years ago, Andrew is looking forward to his new challenge. “I am really excited about my new role at Tennis Scotland and working in partnership with the Tennis Foundation, sportscotland and Scottish Disability Sport.
“The opportunity to develop disability tennis across the whole of Scotland and build on the success of what has already been achieved by our top wheelchair tennis players Gordon Reid and Kevin Simpson alongside players such as Alastair Daniels, who has represented Great Britain at the Special Olympics over the last 15 years, is fantastic.
"My aim is to get more people in Scotland, regardless of any disability, involved in tennis and I want to remove any barriers to make tennis accessible to everyone who wants to pick up a racquet.”
The Tennis Foundation’s Director of Disability Tennis Claire Lavers said, “Our partnership working with Tennis Scotland, sportscotland and Scottish Disability Sport has enabled the creation of this key position and we very much look forward to working with Andrew to ensure tennis becomes accessible to all across the country.”
David Marshall, Tennis Scotland’s Chief Executive, added, “This is a key role within our organisation and in Andrew we have someone who has dedicated much of their lives to developing the sport in this country and that is exactly the type of person we require.
“This is such an exciting time for tennis as we continue to raise the bar in terms of participation, competition, membership and encouraging people to take up the game and in Andrew we have an excellent ambassador who will play a significant part in helping raise that bar even higher.”
