A new University Tennis Tour has been launched this week with six new tournaments taking place across the country from February to April.
The Tour, which is a series of LTA approved Grade 3 competitions, is open exclusively to students.
Each competition features separate men's and ladies' singles events with all matches played counting towards British tennis ratings and rankings as well as the LTA university leaderboards.
The Tour is designed to run alongside the existing British Universities and Colleges Sport (BUCS) tennis league with students having additional opportunities to enjoy competition.
"Developing competitive tennis opportunities for college and university students is a priority and the University Tennis Tour, a joint initiative from the Tennis Foundation and the LTA Competitions team, will make it easier for university students to access appropriate level competitions across the country. We hope that the competitions will be a great success this year and look forward to growing and developing the Tour in future years," said Amanda King, the LTA's Competition Development Officer.
The competitions will take place at the following venues:
- 16 - 17 February, Exeter University Tennis Centre
- 2 - 3 March, Nottingham Tennis Centre
- 15 - 17 March, Wavertree Sports Park, Liverpool
- 22 - 23 March, The Connaught Club, Chingford
- 19 - 21 April, Dan Maskell Tennis Centre, Loughborough
- 27 – 28 April, Cyncoed Tennis Club, Cardiff
Competition support is just one of many tools from British tennis to support the game in higher education institutions across the country.
