Nick Rosenzweig from the University of Stirling and Anna Fitzpatrick from University of East London won the singles titles at the BUCS Individual Finals this weekend at Gosling.
Rosenzweig, who was the number one seed and defending champion, defeated Durham University's fifth seed Harel Srugo 6-3, 6-4. Rosenzweig had fellow Stirling team mates to thank as Harel had expended much of his energy defeating Stirling players in very tough matches in the three previous rounds. In fact, the Men's singles event was dominated by players from the University of Stirling who had five of the eight quarter-finalists and three of the four semi-finalists.
In the ladies final, Anna Fitzpatrick (pictured below) defeated Coventry University's Ana Bogdan 6-4, 6-2 in a match with some high level exchanges. The first set proved key, with Fitzpatrick growing in confidence as her opponent wilted following a tough semi-final in the morning with Leeds Met's Nicole Peterson.

University of East London's new performance programme made further impact with their students Jonathan Parkes and Marshall Tutu defeating Durham's Jonathan Binding and Srugo to win the Men's doubles in a very close match which finished 11-9 in the final set match tie break.
University of Bath picked up the women's doubles event with Alex Walker and Natasha Starling defeating Durham's top seeds Selma Babic and Jennifer Migan 6-2, 6-1.
"It is great to see such a competitive field for this key event in the BUCS calendar. Competition is an important aspect of university tennis and this year we are supporting top events such as this with the introduction of a new University Tour of LTA Grade 3 tournaments," said Alistair Higham, the Tennis Foundation's Higher Education Manager.
