Aegon Schools Tennis shortlisted for Education Awards

Aegon Schools Tennis has been shortlisted for the finals of The Education Resources Awards, organised by The British Educational Suppliers Association, with the winners being announced at a ceremony in March.

British Tennis' schools programme, run by the Tennis Foundation in partnership with the LTA, is the only nomination to reach the finals across the whole PE and school sport landscape and has been shortlisted in two categories; Secondary Schools and Special Schools.

The Education Resources Awards highlight the quality and diversity of educational products and resources, excellent educational establishments and the most dedicated members of the teaching profession and suppliers industry, all working together to encourage the very best in education.

Now in their 15th successful year, what makes these Awards different is that they focus on the resources, services and people that make a practical impact on learning and the day-to-day work of the teachers in the classroom.

Since 2009, Aegon Schools Tennis has supported more than half the schools actoss Great Britain with free teacher training, resources and free equipment.

"We are delighted the Aegon Schools Tennis programme has been recognised nationally by being shortlisted for the finals of The Education Resources Awards 2013. Schools give most children their first experience of sport and their early experience can often determine whether they stay in the game. It's therefore vital we support teachers to ensure that first experience is as fun, positive and inclusive as it can be, showing tennis as a game for everyone," said the Tennis Foundation's Schools Tennis Manager Paul Williams.

"The resources available from the Tennis Foundation and LTA to teachers in primary, special and secondary schools – all supported by free training and equipment – give teachers the confidence and tools to deliver tennis to a class of children in a small space meaning more pupils can play tennis, more often."

These nominations come after Aegon Schools Tennis recently won sports coach UK's 'Coaching Intervention of the Year' and The London Youth Games 'Community Partner of the Year', as well as being short-listed for the Euopean Sponsorship Agency's Excellence Awards and The Hollis Sponsorship Awards.
