Gordon Reid’s bid to reach his second final of the week at Roland Garros came to an end on Thursday when he bowed out of the men’s singles to world No.2 and defending champion Stephane Houdet of France.
Reid’s first two career wins over the 2012 ITF World Champion have come this season, most recently on clay in Rome last month, and Reid matched Houdet for the first four games of their semi-final before the second seed broke Reid’s serve to move 3-2 ahead. With Reid 5-3 down and serving to stay in the first set the British No. 1 and world No. 6 came from 0-40 down to 30-40, but Houdet finally clinched the point he needed to wrap up the set.
Reid came from 4-1 down in the second set to draw level with Houdet at 4-4, but Houdet secured one last break to close out a 6-4, 6-4 victory.
The Scot still has a chance of landing his first Grand Slam title, having already secured his place in Friday’s men’s doubles final, partnering Dutchman Ronald Vink.
