Over 80 Londoners have enjoyed a free tennis open day at King Edward Memorial Park in Tower Hamlets.

Tower Hamlets Tennis Ltd hosted the free activity as they looked to attract new players and families to the courts in King Edward Memorial Park.

With two of the four courts recently up-graded it couldn't have been a better time to come and use the facilities.

On the day there was free coaching and Cardio Tennis sessions, a tennis inspired workout played to up-tempo music available for adults and LTA Mini Tennis, which is aimed at getting more children between the ages of three and ten playing tennis. It offers the perfect introduction to the sport with smaller courts, nets and rackets and lower bouncing balls

And with a bouncy castle, ice creams and face painting all available it was the perfect day out for the family.

Rachael Porsz, the Tennis Foundation's Community Tennis Project Manager, said: "We had some great feedback from the families that came along and everyone seemed to enjoy themselves.

"It was encouraging that the majority of the people that came were new to tennis so the day obviously generated some good interest locally."

Londoners will get another opportunity to enjoy free tennis on June 23rd in Victoria Park between 2-5pm, with all ages and abilities welcome.

The Tennis Foundation, Great Britain's leading tennis charity, is leading on a series of community based pilots with the LTA across eight areas of England, one of which is Tower Hamlets, as well as Scotland and Wales to help identify what works best in growing the game, particularly in urban areas, and how to develop a sustainable model at a local level.
