The Tennis Foundation has announced today that the Right Hon. Dame Tessa Jowell MP and Baroness Margaret Ford have been appointed to its Board of Trustees.
They will join the 13 current Trustees to become responsible for the overall governance and strategic direction of Great Britain's leading tennis charity, which works in close partnership with the Lawn Tennis Association, with a focus on tennis in education, disability tennis and community tennis.
Chairman of the Tennis Foundation, Jonathan Lane, said, "It is an honour to welcome both Tessa and Margaret to the Tennis Foundation as they will bring a wealth of experience to our Board of Trustees as we continue towards our aim of making tennis inclusive and accessible to all.
"I'm sure we will keep them very busy as we build on the success of last year with even more events and activity throughout 2013."
Dulwich and West Norwood MP Jowell marked her new role as a Tennis Foundation Trustee by visiting Evelyn Grace Academy in Brixton this morning where the former Olympics Minister viewed a Year 8 class trying out Cardio Tennis on their outdoor courts.
The secondary school will be supported through the Tennis Foundation's Aegon Schools Tennis programme which aims to promote grass-roots development by enabling more children across Great Britain to play tennis through training and free equipment.
"It is a particular pleasure, both as the local Member of Parliament and as a new Trustee of the Tennis Foundation to welcome this partnership between Evelyn Grace Academy and the Tennis Foundation which will extend the opportunity to play tennis and to compete to hundreds of children in the school who may never have had this chance," said Jowell.
Baroness Ford is currently Chairman of Barchester Healthcare, one the UK's largest providers of healthcare and was previously Chairman of the Olympic Park Legacy Company.
"I'm delighted to join the Tennis Foundation's Board of Trustees and look forward to working with the team there to ensure we continue the sporting legacy from the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games by providing opportunities for more people to play tennis," added Baroness Ford.
