Whiley keeps alive hopes of third Grand Slam title in 2014

Great Britain's Jordanne Whiley and her Japanese partner Yui Kamiji booked their place in another Wimbledon final today with a comprehensive straight sets win on the grass at SW19.

The pair, who are bidding for their third Grand Slam doubles title of 2014 after winning at the Australian and French Opens earlier this year, made short work of their semi-final, defeating Katharina Kruger and Sharon Walraven 6-0, 6-2.

The doubles world No.1 and No.2 were in control from the start and showed their speed around court to claim the first set to love in just 22 minutes.

Germany's Kruger and Dutchwoman Walraven, who is a two-time previous winner at Wimbledon, made more of a match of it in the second set, but couldn't keep up with the pace and attacking shots of last year's finalists as they claimed their place in Sunday's final in under an hour.

"I'm so thrilled to be back in the Wimbledon final," said Whiley, who today helped launched the Tennis Foundation's Ticket2Tokyo Talent ID campaign to find wheelchair tennis stars of the future.

"I felt like we were really attacking today and it obviously worked just losing the two games."

"Yui and I have built up a lot of confidence playing together now and our game styles compliment each other well. We're pretty fast around the court and that helps on the grass.

"I feel a big emotional attachment to Wimbledon as it's my home Grand Slam and I've watched it since I was a little girl. To win here in front of my friends and family would be extra special so I'm going to try my hardest to lift that trophy."

Hopes of a Brit on either side of the net in the final were dashed shortly afterwards as Lucy Shuker and her German partner Sabine Ellerbrock couldn't get past 2012 and 2013 champions and second seeds Aniek van Koot and Jiske Griffioen.

The Dutch pair showed their experience to win the semi-final 6-1, 6-0 to set up a repeat of last year's final at The Championships.

Britain's Gordon Reid will be in action at Wimbledon tomorrow in the men's doubles as he teams up with Dutchman Tom Egberink to face top seeds Shingo Kunieda from Japan and France's Stephane Houdet.
