Cotterill and Shuker net Daegu Open doubles titles

Brits completed the Daegu Open with a brace of titles after Lucy Shuker partnered Marjolein Buis to win the women's doubles final.

Shuker, who finished runner-up to Buis in the women's singles, joined forces with the Dtuchwoman as the top seeds earned a 6-1, 6-0 vicotry over Thai duo Sakhorn Khanthasit and Wanitha Inthanin, with Shuker making it two doubles tittles and a singles title in her back-to-back ITF 1 Series tourraments in Korea.

Antony Cotterill and his South African partner Lucas Sithole won the quad doubles on the penultimate day of play in Daegu as Lucy Shuker and Marjolein Buis reached the women’s doubles final, Shuker finished runner-up in the women’s singles and Marc McCarroll finished runner-up in the men’s doubles.

Top seeds Cotterill and  Sithole raced to a 6-1 6-0 win over Japan’s Shota Kawano and Mitsuteru Moroishi in the quad doubles final as Cotterill claimed his fourth doubles title of 2015 and completed his back-to-back tournaments in Korea with one title and two runner-up up places.

Shuker and Buis, also top seeds, defeated Macarena Cabrillana of Chile and Dana Mathewson of the USA 6-3, 6-4 in their women’s double semi-final. However, Shuker’s bid for back-to-back singles titles in Korea came to an end when Buis won their singles final 4-6, 6-3, 6-0.

Fourth seed McCarroll also put up a fine effort against Dutch second seed Tom Egberink in the men’s singles semi-finals, but world No. 10 Egberink progressed to the final 6-4, 6-7, 6-3.

Later in the day McCarroll and Egbeirnk were on the same side of the net as they attempted to repeat their win in the Korea Open final against Japanese top seeds Satoshi Saida and Takashi Sanada .However, on this occasion Saida and Sanada just had the edge to claim the win  3-6, 6-1 (10-8).

Lucy Shuker continued her fine form at the Daegu Open as she booked her place in the singles final with a 6-4, 6-2 win over Korean Ju-Yeon Park. Shuker trailed 4-1 in the opening set before fighting back to take the first set 6-4. She then confidently wrapped up the match in straight sets, winning 6-2 in the second to book a final against Dutch top seed Marholein Buis.

Meanwhile Marc McCarroll scored a 4-6, 6-3, 6-3 win over Korea's Sang-Ho Oh to secure a semi-final spot against Dutch second seed Tom Egberink.

McCarroll also booked his place in the doubles final whilst partnering Egberink, The second seeds play Japanese top seeds Satoshi Saida and Takashi Sanada for the title as they bid to follow up their victory over the same partnership in the final of the Korea Open.

Antony Cotterill also remains on track in the quad doubles after partnering Lucas Sithole to a comfortable semi-final victory. The tops seeds eased past Chinese Taipei partnership Chu-Yin Huang and Tzu-Hsuan Huang 6-1, 6-1. They will play Japan's Shota Kawano and Mitsuteru Moroishi for the title.

Lucy Shuker made a confident start to her bid for back-to-back women’s singles titles in Korea after reaching the semi-finals for the loss of just one game in her first two matches. Marc McCarroll’s also reached the quarter-finals of the men’s singles and the semi-finals of the men’s doubles and Antony Cotterill’s moved into the semi-finals of the quad doubles.

Second seed Shuker, who has moved up to world No.7 this week following her Korea Open title, plays Korea’s Ju-Yeon Park for a place in the final in Daegu after beating South Africa’s Mariska Venter 6-0, 6-0 and Kanako Domori of Japan 6-1, 6-0.

Shuker and Dutchwoman Marjolein Buis are top seeds for the women’s doubles and play Japan’s Yumiko Inoue and Lucyna Mietrkiewicz for a place in the semi-finals.

British No. 2 McCarroll will play Korea's Sang-Ho Oh or a place in the men’s singles semi-finals. McCarroll followed his first round bye with a 6-3, 6-0 win over Korea’s Ha-Gel Lee to reach the last eight.

McCarroll and Egberink, doubles champions at the Korea Open, began their bid for back-to-back titles with a hard-won 2-6, 75 (10-7) victory over Korean duo Sung-Bong Han and Oh. They play third seeds Takuya Miki of Japan and Ben Weekes of Australia for a place in another final.

After beating world No. 6 Nick Taylor at the Korea Open, Cotterill’s attempt to beat another higher ranked top ten player ended in a 7-5, 6-0 loss to South African world No. 4 Lucas Sithole in the first round of the quad singles. However, Cotterill and Sithole are top seeds for the quad doubles and eased through to the semi-finals after beating Korea’s Deok-Gy Kim and Young-Bae Lee 6-1, 6-0.
