Year 3&4 Mini Tennis Red Schools Competition

This summer, more than 20,000 young people will be competing in Mini Tennis Schools Competitions across Great Britain. Our priority age group for national coverage is Year 3&4 (ages 7-9yrs), but some areas also provide opportunities for other school years.

All competitions are arranged locally and begin with an event with a cluster of local schools. The winning team(s) then progress on to a Local Authority / Partnership Final, with the winners of these events progressing on to County Finals.

In England, the majority of Mini Tennis Red Schools Competition links with the School Games.

Year 5&6 Mini Tennis Orange Schools Competition – Pilot 2015

  • Based on feedback from both the network and schools, we are piloting a new Year 5&6 Mini Tennis Orange Schools Competition with a small number of SGOs this summer (2015).
  • This competition seeks to fill a gap in our schools competition pathway and will ensure an opportunity exists for pupils to play competitive schools tennis from ages 7 to 19.
  • Mini Tennis Orange is a great way for players to continue their progress from Mini Tennis Red. It is played with shorter rackets and softer balls; courts are bigger and wider than the red stage but still smaller than full-size tennis courts.
  • Following this summer’s pilot, we hope many SGOs and LOCs take the opportunity to include and embed this new competition within their local School Games competition offer for schools.
  • Please do not hesitate to contact your Regional LTA Contact if you have any questions or queries or email schools@tennisfoundation.org.uk
