Alfie Hewett - AEGON Junior Player of the Month

Alfie Hewett has won the AEGON Junior Player of the Month for August 2012.

In August the 14-year-old wheelchair tennis player won his first career ITF Futures event at the Memorial Jens Vanherck in Belgium, in both the men’s and boys’ singles events. Hewett didn’t drop a set throughout the tournament and defeated 21-year-old Rutger Bakker in the men’s final 6-2, 6-1.

Hewett also won the men’s doubles at that event with Dutch partner Dick Eikenaar, again without dropping a set throughout the event before defeating Moroccan Tarik Charbi and Belgian Ronald de Meersman 6-1, 6-3 in the final.

The very next week he travelled to the Ath Open where he scooped the boys' title alongside the men’s consolation crown in Belgium.

In 2010, Hewett was the youngest player ever to gain a senior world ranking and has since risen to No.78 in the senior world rankings and is the boy’s World No.3.

He has already started September brightly winning another ITF Futures men’s singles and doubles title at the Belgium 25 tournament in Lebbeke.
