Katie Swan has won the January Aegon Junior Player of the Month award after her thrilling display at the Australian Open where she reached her first junior Grand Slam singles final.
On her way to the final Swan, 15, knocked out No.1 seed Shilin Xu 6-2, 6-2 in the third round before winning a dramatic semi-final match against Hungarian Dalma Galfi.
In the final, played on the Rod Laver Arena, Swan suffered with a groin injury and had to take a medical timeout on her way to a 6-1, 6-4 loss to Tereza Mihalikova.
Afterwards, Swan said: “It's actually been crazy. There have been so many people that sent me messages, tweeting, Facebook, Instagram.
“It's been amazing. Obviously my best tournament I've ever played. I hope that there are a lot more tournaments like this for me.”
