Heather Watson is through to the second round of the French Open after beating world No. 63 Barbora Zahlavova Strycova 6-3, 6-4.
The British No.2 dominated throughout the first set, but the Czech's form improved in the second as she hit 13 winners and increased her first serve percentage. After failing to convert two match points, Watson sealed her place in the next stage of Roland Garros with some strong serving.
An on form, Watson who has now won nine matches in a row tweeted:
“I felt like I was playing at home today because of all the unbelievable support, the crowd you were amazing! So loud just how I like it!!!”
The tournament will no doubt be more difficult for the 22 year-old going forward as she is playing fourth seed Simona Halep.
Fellow Brit, Andy Murray is third on Lenglen against Andrey Goulubev later today.
Doubles
British duo Colin Fleming & Ross Hutchins missed out in round one of the men's doubles as they were defeated by Santiago Gonzalez (MEX) & Scott Lipsky (USA) 7-6(8), 6-4.
