James Ward & Dan Cox progress in French Open qualifying

James Ward & Dan Cox progressed through to the second round of French Open qualifying on Tuesday, while Dan Evans was defeated in straight sets.

Ward, who is appearing in his fourth qualifying draw at Roland Garros, defeated Rudu Albot (MDA) 6-3, 7-5 to set up a second round qualifying meeting with American Ryan Harrison.

Meanwhile British No.4 Cox, who is making his debut in French Open qualifying, overcame Amir Weintraub (ISR) 6-2, 6-1 to meet either qualifying top seed Paolo Lorenzi of Italy or Egyptian Mohamed Safwat in the next round.

Afterwards Dan Cox tweeted: Really happy to win my first round @rolandgarros #letshaveit #frenchopen

Both Brits need to win their next two qualifying matches to reach the French Open main draw.

World No.130 Evans was also in action falling to Gastao Elias (POR) 6-3, 6-1.
