Heather Watson vs Melinda Czink at Aegon Classic

Share

Day two of the Aegon Classic has a feast of British players to cheer for, with Heather Watson starting her campaign off against Hungary’s Melinda Czink on the newly-named Ann Jones Centre Court.

Watson certainly looked at home on the new court when she joined Tim Henman, Sorana Cirstea and Greg Rusedski for Sunday’s grand opening exhibition match but, this will be an altogether more serious business. Watson is seeded 14th but she is making her way back from a bout of glandular fever which kept her off the court for almost four months.

She is feeling better and has the added inspiration of playing in front of her home crowd, something which always gives all the British players an extra boost.

There will be plenty of British interest on the outside courts today too. Court 2 is well worth a visit if you want to cheer on local players, with both Tara Moore and Johanna Konta playing their first round matches there. Moore is first up at 11am against talented young Frenchwoman Kristina Mladenovic, with Konta following her countrywoman on court for her match against Japanese qualifier Kurumi Nara.

Robson & Raymond

Great Britain’s Laura Robson and her accomplished American partner Lisa Raymond have already shown that they are a force to be reckoned with on the doubles court by reaching the final of the Sony Open in Miami in March. They are first on the Ann Jones Centre Court against Cara Black – like Raymond, a former doubles world No.1 - and Marina Erakovic.

Daniela Hantuchova

Daniela Hantuchova is always a big draw card at the Aegon Classic and is a former finalist here (in 2011). Today she faces hard-hitting Australian lefthander Casey Dellacqua in what could be an entertaining encounter on the Ann Jones Centre Court.
