Johanna Konta sealed her place in the second round at the Aegon Classic as she defeated Kurumi Nara of Japan 6-2, 6-4.
Konta, who reached the semi-finals of the Aegon Trophy last week, returned well throughout the match sealing the win in one hour and 13 minutes. Konta will face Tara Moore’s conqueror, Kristina Mladenovic in round two.
"It was a solid match, I was able to hold my serve routinely" said Konta afterwards. "Getting through the first round is always great and I am just looking to build some momentum going forward."
British No.4 Moore put in a strong performance in her first round match against Mladenovic taking the Frenchwoman to three sets.
Moore dominated on serve in the opening set, winning 78% of points. As the match went on Mladenovic fought back to take the second set on a tie-break and eventually came through 5-7, 7-6(5), 6-4 in two hours and 20 minutes.
