British No.1 Laura Robson was defeated in the second round of the Aegon Classic in Edgbaston, Birmingham after a straight sets loss to Daniela Hantuchova.

Robson, who had received a bye into the second round, fell to the Slovakian world No.60 6-3, 6-4 in one hour and 17 minutes.

Speaking after her match Robson said: "I definitely could’ve moved up to the ball a bit more. It is definitely something I could work on a bit more but I thought Daniela played very well today.

"I just have to keep practising and stay confident and keep focussing."

Hantuchova commented: "I was in control from the start, I always focus on myself and it seemed to work well today."

Johanna Konta's 6-4, 6-1 second-round loss to Kristina Mladenovic means no Britons remain in the singles draw.
