Liberty X star Michelle Heaton was in Birmingham today (25th March) to launch Ladies’ Day at the UK’s most prestigious all-female international tennis tournament, the Aegon Classic, held at the Edgbaston Priory Club.
Michelle is the face of the tournament’s Ladies’ Day which will take place on 13th June, to support local breast cancer charity, Ladies Fighting Breast Cancer.
Speaking during the launch event at House of Fraser in Birmingham, Michelle said: “I am absolutely delighted to be the Ladies’ Day ambassador for the Aegon Classic. The event embodies three things I’m passionate about: sport, looking fabulous and raising money for a worthwhile cause.
“I know first-hand just how important it is to raise the much-needed funds to fight Breast Cancer and after my day in Birmingham, I’m really excited for the event in June. Ladies’ Day is a fantastic chance for everyone to dress up with friends, be pampered, watch some of the world’s top female tennis players and help to raise money for a worthwhile charity at the same time.”
Veronica Kumeta, chairman and co-founder of Ladies Fighting Breast Cancer, said: “Last year’s event was a huge success which saw glamorous ladies from across the region attend and support our cause, and we’re really excited to be involved again this year.
“The appointment of Michelle Heaton as ambassador for the day is fantastic and we’re thrilled to have someone who understands the importance of raising funds for breast cancer detection and screening equipment on board.”
The Aegon Classic is a major must-see tournament played on outdoor grass courts, in the lead-up to The Championships, Wimbledon. The event offers a chance to see top class tennis from some of the top female players from around the world including British No.1 Heather Watson, who has confirmed her attendance at this year’s event. Historically the tournament has attracted globally renowned players including Billie Jean King, Martina Navratilova, Steffi Graf, while more recently Maria Sharapova, Li Na and Laura Robson have graced the Priory Club’s courts.
This year, the Aegon Classic’s Ladies Day will return on Thursday 13th June. Teaming up with ShoppinginBirmingham.com, the Ladies Day will include the likes of cocktail making, hair styling and manicures – not to mention a full day of tennis. There will also be a best dressed competition, which will be judged and presented by Michelle Heaton.
Kim Stephens from Retail Birmingham, Editor of ShoppinginBirmingham.com, said: “We’re pleased to be supporting Ladies’ Day for a second year and look forward to bringing Birmingham’s fantastic shopping offer to Edgbaston Priory Club for ladies to enjoy throughout their visit.”
