Lopez wins all Spanish clash to reach semi-finals

Feliciano Lopez defeated Fernando Verdasco in straight sets in an all Spanish affair on Centre Court at the Aegon International, to progress into the semi-finals on Thursday.

The Spanish world No.39 beat his compatriot, the world No.58, in a 6-4, 7-6(6) scoreline to move into the final four where he will play Croatian Ivan Dodig who defeated eighth seed Italian Fabio Fognini 6-3, 6-2.

The other men's semi-final will see seventh seed and 2011 winner Andreas Seppi compete after the Italian defeated Czech Radek Stepanek 6-4, 6-2. 

He will take on Gilles Simon after the Frenchman defeated Australia's Bernard Tomic 7-6, 6-3 in the final match of the day on Thursday. 

In the women's event No.2 seed Li Na was knocked out after an impressive performance by world No. 36 Elena Vesnina. The Russian won 7-6(4), 6-3 to claim a place in the semi-finals where she will play Yanina Wickmayer, who defeated sixth seed Maria Kirilenko in a tough battle, coming through 6-2, 1-6, 7-5.

In the other half of the draw Jamie Hampton continued her good form with a hard fought 3-6, 7-6(1), 6-4 victory over Lucie Safarova. Completing the semi-final line up is Caroline Wozniacki, who came through a topsy-turvy match against Ekaterina Makarova. The 2009 champion won 4-6, 6-0, 6-3.
