Dan Evans, James Ward and Kyle Edmund have been awarded wild cards the 2014 Aegon International at Devonshire Park in Eastbourne.
British number two Dan Evans who reached a career high ranking of 123 earlier this year, will be making his second main draw appearance after last playing the Aegon International three years ago. Evans’s Davis Cup team-mate James Ward, fresh off the back of becoming the first British man for over 40 years to qualify for Roland Garros, will make his seventh consecutive appearance at Devonshire Park.
Kyle Edmund returns to the south coast after achieving his first win at ATP level at last year’s event. He commented: “I’m really excited to be going back to Eastbourne. I have really good memories from last year when I won a round and then enjoyed a really close match against Gilles Simon. I’ll definitely be looking to push on this summer in front of a home crowd and make the most of my wild card.”
James Ward added: “I always look forward to this time of year. I gained a lot of confidence from what I did in Paris and I’ll be looking to use that throughout the grass court season and hopefully record some really good results.”
Evans, Ward and Edmund will join a host of top players competing at the Aegon International including top seed Richard Gasquet (FRA), Alexandr Dolgopolov (UKR), Gilles Simon (FRA) and Feliciano Lopez (ESP).
On Sunday 15th June at the Aegon International, British Tennis will be hosting ‘Rally for Bally’ in memory of former British number one Elena Baltacha who lost her battle against liver cancer earlier this month. An all-star line-up in Eastbourne will see Heather Watson, Greg Rusedski, Petra Kvitova and Jonny Marray join forces to play a mixed doubles exhibition match to raise money for the Elena Baltacha Academy of Tennis, as well as the Royal Marsden Cancer Charity. To donate to this incredible cause go to www.JustGiving.com/RallyforBally or text EBAL60 with the amount you wish to donate to 70070.
