Olympic tennis day 5 - Mixed history

Day 5 - Mixed history

Mixed doubles returned to the Olympic Games today for the first time since 1924! While the GB team didn't make it onto court there were wins for BLR, USA, ARG, AUS and ITA on day one.

The crowds enjoyed the spectacle and the quality of the tennis didn't disappoint in an event where two wins is all you need to guarantee a medal match.

The event did make an appearance in Mexico City in 1968 but only as an exhibition. The last time medals were awarded was 88 years ago in Paris and four wins in 2012 will be enough for one pair to make history.

Of course the singles and doubles events also progressed today and we're yet to see any major shocks with the No.1 seeds still going strong in all four events.

With great talent comes great expectation. Have a look at these fans desperate to get a glimpse of their heroes as they complete their media requirements on the roof at Wimbledon. These guys looking for Andy Murray.
