GB tennis players learn round one Olympics opponents

Andy Murray will open against Stanislas Wawrinka in round one of the men's singles after the draws took place for the London 2012 Olympics tennis event at Wimbledon.

The British No.1 has drawn the Swiss No.2 and world No.26 in round one of the singles and is in the same half of the draw as world No.2 Novak Djokovic.

Murray is also competing in the doubles event alongside his brother Jamie and the pair have drawn Austria in round one, up against Jurgen Melzer & Alexander Peya.

The other GB pair in the men's doubles, Colin Fleming & Ross Hutchins, will take on the French second pair in the form of Julien Benneteau & Richard Gasquet.

In the women's singles event British No.1 Heather Watson plays 24 year old Spaniard Silvia Soler-Espinosa, the world No.63 in round one.

Anne Keothavong plays Danish former world No.1 Caroline Wozniacki whilst Elena Baltacha plays the unranked Hungarian Agnes Szavay.

In the doubles event both British pairs have drawn Germany. Heather Watson & Laura Robson take on Angelique Kerber & Sabine Lisicki whilst Anne Keothavong & Elena Baltacha play Julia Goerges & Anna-Lena Groenefeld.

Reflecting on the draw, starting with the men's singles, Team GB Tennis Team Leader Paul Hutchins said:

"Andy has been practicing with him all week, so they will certainly know each other well. It’s a tough draw, but Andy is the seeded player and will be looking to do very well here. It’s a tough draw for both players."

On women’s draw: "Any draw was going to be tough for the girls as none of them were seeded but Anne (Keothavong) has got a particularly tough match against Wozniacki. In the doubles our women’s pairs are both playing against German opposition who are also unseeded, so it is good for them to have avoided the very top seeds."

Finally, on the men’s doubles draw: "Andy and Jamie (Murray) begin against the Austrian pair, who are also unseeded, and I believe they have a very good chance of victory. The draw for Ross (Hutchins) and Colin (Fleming) against the French pair is tough, but most certainly not impossible, they’ll be looking forward to it."
